Free grocery boxes distributed to Sacramento County families
SACRAMENTO — Most schools are closed this winter break, but that didn’t stop some Sacramento city elementary schools from getting up early and serving their community.
Thursday morning, volunteers at five different locations handed out free boxes of food to families in need.
A steady stream of cars drove up to each school for a free box of nutritional food for the body and mind. The curbside food distribution was made possible by the Sacramento City Unified School District and the Sacramento Food Bank.
People like Joycelyn Bingham are grateful for programs that serve the community.
“Every little bit helps right now,” Bingham told CBS Sacramento.
For others, having access to basic food items can feed entire families during difficult times.
“Families like us, right now, we are very less fortunate, and we didn’t really have Christmas, so to have events like this going on – we can just come and grab some food for the kids – that’s amazing,” said Cre Dorsey, who received one of the boxes Thursday.
