Special Diets and Meal Accommodations in School Meal Programs
Nutrition Services may make food substitutions, at our discretion, for individual children who do not have a disability, but who are medically certified as having a special medical or dietary need. Such determinations are only made on a case-by-case basis. This provision covers those children who have food intolerances or allergies but do not have life-threatening reactions (anaphylactic reactions) when exposed to the food(s) to which they have problems.
Please be sure that all forms are filled out in their entirety before sending to Nutrition Services to ensure special diets are written and implemented in a timely manner. Special diet requests must be turned in every school year, they do not roll over from the previous school year.
If your child requires a special diet, have a licensed physician complete the forms, indicating the medical necessity, and send it to Nutrition Services. All special diet requests must be completed and signed by a U.S. licensed physician, physician’s assistant, or nurse practitioner. Special diets cannot be prescribed by a registered nurse (RN).
Send all forms/prescriptions directly to Melissa Peacock, Area Supervisor via email at [email protected] or contact by phone at 916-395-5600 ext. 460025.
